GAP Good Samaritans
The recent wintery conditions have seen a spate of accidents and frustration on the roads causing travel chaos.
There are however some good Samaritans out there and a number of GAP employees went above and beyond the call of duty to help people in their time of need.
Paul Rhodes a fitter at the Bristol Depot helped stranded motorist - Mr Andrew Greathead - after his car hit some ice and went off the road on the Tetbury Road towards Cirencester. Paul switched on his rotalights to warn other drivers of the ice and of the accident. Paul then phoned Gloucestershire County Council to inform them of the dangerous stretch of road and the accident.
Paul then gave Mr Greathead a lift home as the rescue vehicle would have taken at least 5 hours to reach the accident. Mr Greathead commented on his rescuer ‘I would like to say thank you to Paul for his invaluable assistance and to The GAP Group for employing someone in Paul who had the time and made a great effort to help me out.’
Our second group of good Samaritans were from GAP Middlesbrough.
St Peters College of Maths and Computing, in Southbank Middlesbrough, had been unable to open for a week due to the inclement weather. Following a plea from Head Teacher Pamela Hanrahan to her staff to come up with snow clearing ideas - GAP Middlesbrough came to the rescue.
The school contacted Kevin McEwan – GAP’s Operations Director, and asked if he could assist, Kevin organised some excavators to be delivered, on Friday 3 December, and the team at Middlesbrough helped to clear the school car park and pathways. The school was then able to reopen on Monday 6th December.
Pamela Hanrahan, passed on her thanks to Tony Murray and the lads at Middlesbrough for an excellent job done, which enabled the school to fully reopen to staff and pupils.
